Even though Final Fantasy XIII will be a true blockbuster in every sense of the word, most RPG fans don't want to wait quite that long. Hence, they're turning their attention to other titles that are closer on the calendar; the biggest of which is Level 5's White Knight Chronicles .
We've been keeping close track of this game's developments over the past few months, and we'd like to think we've uncovered as many new details as possible. The game does have a solid Japanese release date of December 25, and we're waiting for U.S. launch information, but in the meantime, PSBeyond has stumbled across some new stuff. Japanese gaming site Game-Star! has listed several new interesting tidbits: first of all, the native 1080p high-definition resolution is confirmed again, which is great news as far as we're concerned. Also, in terms of the gameplay, there's a "dynamic battle system" that will allow you to switch between the regular characters and thee "colossal white knight" form whenever you wish. We haven't seen or heard much about this Transformers-like morphing in WKC, but we're certainly intrigued. And remember, even though the game isn't traditionally turn-based, we've heard it will be a hybrid type; a blend of turn-based and real-time fighting.
Lastly, there are two new pieces of information that jack the game's longevity through the roof: the story campaign alone could last over 100 hours, and Level 5 will provide co-op gameplay over the PlayStation Network! These days, when a game lasts 20 or 30 hours and that's considered "long," RPG fans continue to wait for a ridiculously long and in-depth JRPG. Well, White Knight Chronicles should fit the bill quite nicely.
