Will Home Launch In October?

Despite the delays earlier this year, Sony has been more upfront with PlayStation Home lately, and more invites continue to arrive to users in North America for the closed beta. Currently, the release for Home (technically, the open beta, but still considered to be the official launch) is still scheduled for some time this fall.

Well, fall starts tomorrow so now we're all starting to wonder: when this fall? According to PS3Fanboy, a tipster took a snapshot of a topic in the beta message board, where they're talking about a bug in the closed beta that freezes the systems and gives testers Network issues. The topic received a response from a Home Manager, who said this will be fixed with firmware update 2.50, and he said this would become available "later October." Now, in that same vein, Home version 1.00 should also be released at about the same time (the closed beta is version 0.98 now), which may indicate the possibility that 1.00, along with update 2.50, could represent the open Home beta. Of course, all of this is just speculation, but when it comes to Home, it's always fun to theorize. With the closed beta continuing on at a relatively rapid pace and "Fall 2008" basically here already, could Home release next month?

We'll keep you in the loop, and see what we can find out from Sony. Chances are, they'll just give us the standard, "we don't comment on rumors" reply, but you never know. Maybe our contact will feel more talkative on the issue (for once).
