When the game first jumped into the public eye last year, many gamers simply assumed it would be available in both the standard Blu-Ray disc format and the digital downloadable format. However, Sony and Media Molecule have repeatedly said LittleBigPlanet wouldn't be coming to the PlayStation Store. And do you know why ?
Well, apparently, it wouldn't be that much different than trying to put Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on the Store for download. Konami's masterpiece took up nearly the full 50GB of space on the disc, and perhaps surprisingly, LittleBigPlanet will take up over 40GB of space. According to PS3Fanboy, it's going to be a dual-layer BD (just like MGS4), and due to the sheer amount of tutorial content and the "two paths through the game," this is one very large project. By the way, when they say "two paths," they're referring to "the player's route and the creator's route." Media Molecule's Alex Evans elaborates on the issue:
"We're filling the Blu-ray up with is tutorials, and a lot of video stuff showing exactly how it's done, it's narrated by Stephen Fry and so on. It's really useful that thanks to Blu-ray we haven't needed to worry about file size, it's never crossed my mind. The game itself and the levels you produce are relatively compact."
There are plenty of excited gamers out there already, but this is the reason why LBP won't be a downloadable title…it's just really big. There's a whole lot of content involved in this bad boy, and if it's not enough to satisfy you, then you've got some crazy super high expectations. We can't wait to get our hands on it; we're anticipating nothing less than a wholly original and entertaining experience.
