Ben-DutkaAccording to UK trade site GamesIndustry.biz , Sony may be addressing concerns regarding the PS3 controller's rechargeable – and unreplaceable – batteries. Because the user can't access the Sixaxis' battery compartment, if/when the batteries fail to hold a charge, they'd be faced with a problem.
But it seems that a Sony representative told the site that Sony "will provide a service to replace wireless PS3 controllers 'when and if' their lithium batteries degrade." He did confirm it would take "many years" for the batteries to degrade, but he didn't go into further details. We don't yet know if there will be a cost for such a service, and if so, how much.
For now, we'll assume the company's replacement plan for the Sixaxis' battery will be similar to the program they have for dealing with PS2's afflicted with the dreaded "Disc Read Error." And of course, this requires a call to SCEA Customer Service at 1-800-345-SONY (7669) or a visit to its Online customer service center .
