Ben-DutkaRemember that debacle concerning Brett Favre on the cover of EA's Madden NFL 09 ? That whole thing about the "Madden Curse" coming back to bite the publisher this time around? Well, it was too late for EA to mass produce the game with Favre in a fancy new Jets uniform on the cover, so they now have a downloadable cover for hardcore fans. Will they have to do the same thing for FIFA 09 ?
On the right on that box there is Maurice Edu of Major League Soccer's Toronto FC, but as Kotaku tells us, Edu may be signing with the Glasgow Rangers of the Scottish Premiere League very soon. We can just see the EA Sports guys sitting there right now kinda going, "aw, not again !" Of course, Edu isn't exactly on the same level in terms of star power as Brett Favre, but there are plenty of avid soccer followers out there, and if they offered a fix for the Madden NFL 09 cover, shouldn't they do the same with FIFA 09 ? It's only fair, and after all, soccer really is the world's sport of choice; not American football. And it ain't like the Chinese revering NBA stars like Gods, either.
Of course, Edu just might stay put and this whole thing will blow over, but if not, EA Sports has yet another inaccurate box art cover. And it's not like these games are simple arcade-style titles; they're designed to be simulators, which makes this much more of an issue. It's just bad luck for EA, that's all. And we have to admit…it's a little funny, too. 😉
