Ben-DutkaIt's been a big Gamer's Day for Sony, and amongst a deluge of news, Sony also revealed more about the PS3's non-game-related capabilities as a media center.
At a demonstration today, Sony's Phil Harrison showed how the PSP can be used to check out videos, movies, and pictures stored in the PS3…from anywhere on the planet via wireless connection. In turn, the PS3 functions as a media hub with the PS3 as a remote access point.
In more news from another major feature, Sony also officially announced the PlayStation Store as part of the PS3. The Store will sport demos, extra game content, and classic PS1 games among other things. By using an API from Sony, developers can even implement Store functionality directly into games, and that's something we hope to see a lot of; it's awfully intriguing.
In regards to those classic PS1 titles, Sony said they could be bought through the Store and played on the PSP. And while Sony didn't officially announce any prices for Store games or other products, Harrison did say the company is aiming for a base price of $14.99 or less.
And finally, the PS3 will include a web browser straight out of the box. Input is handled much the same way as the PSP's browser interface, or by using an external USB keyboard.
