No Console-Specific Characters In SFIV

In more fighting game news for today (we feel like it's 15 years ago!), it seems that while Namco Bandai isn't beyond sparking fanboy debates with specific characters for specific consoles, Capcom isn't about to follow the example.

As most of you already know, Namco's Soul Calibur IV for the PlayStation 3 boasts Darth Vader as a playable character, while the Xbox 360 version features Yoda. It's an interesting move, but when Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono was asked at Comic-Con if their game would do something similar, the answer was in the negative. "We dont want to go in that direction," said Ono. On the other hand, console owners can expect brand new characters designed specifically for the home version of SFIV, which means it'll immediately have something over the arcade version. There just won't be any difference between the PS3 and 360 versions in terms of character availability.

What Namco did with SCIV isn't entirely unique, but it's a move that will force multiple console owners to make a tough decision. Capcom doesn't feel like playing any such games, so it won't matter which console you own when SFIV arrives.
