Capcom Using RE4 Controls For RE5

Resident Evil has come an awfully long way since the days of the original, when the control scheme was nowhere near as fluid and accessible as it was in RE4. However, the control scheme is still unique; it's more action-based (none of that "turn to face in the direction you wish to go, then move forward" baloney), but there are still limitations. You can't leap about like Dante, basically.

Some gamers like that, others don't. But here's some news – and you can interpret it whichever way you wish – that is significant in regards to the ultimate outcome of Resident Evil 5 . According to Talk PlayStation, as of now, you can't run and shoot at the same time in RE5, just like you couldn't in RE4. Some thought there may be another revolution in the series in the fifth installment, where there's even more of an emphasis on action, but that may not be the case. For now, Capcom is simply using the RE4 gameplay mechanic:

"At the moment you have to stop running to start shooting, we're using the RE4 control scheme at the moment. The game is still in development and may change nearer to release."

There are two schools of thought on this issue. Members of the first group believe that if you made it too "action-y," it would lose all the panache that makes it Resident Evil and it'd become more of a run 'n gun, third-person shooter than a creepy, intense survival/horror game. Members of the second group believe it wouldn't harm anything to have a character who's more adept, and would actually serve to enhance the aforementioned intensity. So it depends which side of the fence you're on, but right now, the fact remains: no running and shooting in RE5.
