Oops.
Apparently, that's the unofficial word on firmware update 2.40, which released today to hordes of anxious PlayStation 3 owners. At first, everything progressed smoothly, as few reported any problems downloading the update, and there were only a few scant reports about system freezing issues after obtaining the update. However, as the day has gone on, we've heard more examples of PS3s suffering badly due to the recently downloaded firmware, and that includes evident hardware failures along with multiple freezing problems and laggy gameplay for certain titles. In response to this, Sony has removed the update and, as far as we can tell, are fixing it for another try. They haven't officially said anything about it, but we just have to assume they are well aware of the issues at hand.
We'll let you know when firmware update 2.40 returns to be downloaded, but I can personally say I haven't noticed anything out of whack since downloading the update last night. Actually, I've noticed faster loading times when playing Top Spin 3 …but I don't see what that has to do with the update. Anybody else who didn't suffer the 2.40 curse noticing this…?
