Diablo III Announced, Next-Gen Consoles Left Out

Well, the third installment is finally coming: Diablo III has officially been announced by Blizzard at their Worldwide Invitational in Paris today. The game is currently in development and if you're wondering, it's now 8 years after Diablo II hit the market in 2000.

The game will have the same isometric camera view as Diablo II , with the trademark Life and Mana bubbles, along with the same books and scrolls, but that's about where the similarities should end. There will be interactive environments for the very first time, plus a new class (Witch Doctor) and female versions of every class available. Perhaps best of all, Blizzard has revealed that Diablo III is cooperative-based, which is a very new phenomenon. Now, we know you're probably wondering if this game will come to next-gen consoles, but you really shouldn't hold your breath- according to PSU.com, a Blizzard representative made no mention of bringing Diablo III to the PS3/Xbox 360:

"Yes, this is PC/Mac. As with all of Blizzard Entertainment's recent releases, Diablo III will ship for both Windows and Mac simultaneously."

In this day and age, this view might hurt overall sales, but hey, Blizzard's Blizzard. Perhaps one day there will be enough of a console owner outcry to deliver Diablo III to some new platforms, but for now, you'll probably be playing it as you played both other entries.
