But recently, Western gaming has become awfully big, and now, the situation is reversed for Japanese gamers who want Western-developed titles. Codemasters sees the Japanese market as important, and therefore, they plan to bring over one of their most promising titles.
According to GameSpot, the British developer who already has several high-quality racing games to its name plans to release GRiD in Japan some time this winter. It will be "fully localized" for the country, include all Japanese voice acting and text, and best of all, it'll come bundled with the publisher's other great racer, Colin McRae: DiRT . This makes perfect sense to us, because while rally racing may not be their thing, street racing is huge in Japan. They love their cars over there, so from a business standpoint, Codemasters appears to be making the right move. The publisher's CEO Rod Cousens had this to say-
"We have pursued options in the market for some time and this announcement is but a first indication of our ambitions in that market… The recent success of key western titles in Japan is indicative of the current trend where Japanese gamers are not only more aware of popular western gaming brands but actively seeking them out."
We're so used to whining about great games staying in Japan – how many of you were forced to import over the past decade? – we don't realize that many Western titles don't make it over there . And while the gaming preferences differ greatly, we're fairly certain that GRiD will be a relatively popular title in Japan. This ain't no FPS.
