The biggest rumor surrounding the upcoming firmware update 2.40 for the PlayStation 3 has been obvious to all: it just might arrive with the long-awaited in-game XMB and Trophy support. But nobody seemed to question its release, which should be scheduled for this month.
However, that has been brought into question now, as TheSixthAxis says 2.40 won't make it for June. They cite sources in the NeoGAF forums, where a variety of forum posts have led us all to believe that this anticipated update won't hit until July. They talk about "technical issues (that) need to be ironed out," and one supposed insider source said the following-
"Well put it like this, the version I touched needed to be fixed, it's possible that it could come out by end of (the) month but who's to say how fast the Sony ninjas are? I only had one gripe but there are still tweaks that need to be done."
Unfortunately, nobody confirms the in-game XMB or Trophies, but they do say it's simply not ready yet. We have no idea if this is true – none of this info can be considered official – but if it is, it's somewhat disappointing. We were hoping to see 2.40 unveiled in time for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots this month, but now it seems that won't happen. We'll let you know if Sony decides to issue something concrete on the subject.
