It seems like every time a new firmware update looms on the horizon, somebody is predicting that it will have the long-awaited in-game XMB and Trophies. Each and every time, though, the firmware releases and the predictions are dashed.
Well, it's happening again: the Videogaming247 blog "has it on good authority" that firmware update 2.4 will indeed include Trophy support and the in-game XMB (which will allow users to input their our soundtracks into games). They also say that developers have received programming tools to support this update, which is something that's probably true. But as usual, they say that none of this is actually confirmed, and while that isn't surprising, we're once again hoping for this major update. The in-game XMB is something the Xbox 360 had since its launch several years back, and PS3 owners have been waiting for their console to get the same option. Sony said it was coming quite a while ago, but they haven't said when…and that's the key, isn't it? It's all about that official announcement, and we just haven't seen it yet.
We'll be keeping an eye on this as we get closer to the release of firmware update 2.4, which isn't far off. Bring on the big enhancements!
