EB/GameStop: All PS3 Preorders Gone

After we all found out yesterday that an extremely limited number of PS3 preorders would be available at EBs and GameStops around the U.S., a lot of us must've gotten up bright and early today.

Perhaps due to the problems experienced during last year's Xbox 360 preorder ordeal and the system's subsequent short supply, the biggest exclusive game retailers in the country cut down drastically on this year's PS3 preorders. Most stores were limited to only 8 preorders, although some were allowed 16, and as of this morning, the blitz was on when more than 3,500 EBs and GameStops opened their doors.

And of course, the preorders disappeared faster than Danica Patrick on a straightaway: EB and GS have officially updated their websites with the following depressing information for anyone who wasn't completely on the ball this morning:

"Due to high demand and limited quantities, our US in-store preorder for the PlayStation 3 has ended."

But it's not all bad news. Firstly, yesterday's announcement stated that half the available PS3s for launch will be going to Best Buy…who aren't accepting preorders. Therefore, if we do the math, 200,000 PS3s should be on Best Buy shelves across the country on November 17. Furthermore, American gamers determined to land a preordered PS3 may be able to head north to get that invaluable receipt:

The message continues: "Information regarding the launch date of our Canadian in-store preorder will be posted when available. Online console preorder information coming soon!"
