Ben-DutkaWhile most movies based on video games are God-awful, they can still turn a profit. Capcom has obviously had decent success in the past with the likes of their "Resident Evil" and "Street Fighter" films – as sad as that may be – so they're looking to turn more of their franchises into feature films.
During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Capcom president and COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto revealed that the publisher was currently "in talks" to adapt more of Capcom's game properties into celluloid. Unfortunately for us, he didn't go into specifics, although we can probably guess which series might be prime suspects. Here's one of Tsujimoto's quotes:
"We are in the process of working out contracts for several offers we received at the Cannes Film Festival last week and hope to make an announcement soon. If realized, the projects will have a big impact on the game and movie industries. We want to do with games what Marvel did with comics."
Well, maybe a "Devil May Cry" movie can rival the "Spider-Man" series. So far, we've had three movies based on RE, one on SF, and a second SF-inspired one – "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" – set to be released in early 2009. That's Kristin Kreuk pictured here, as a dirty brawler from the streets of Thailand. DMC could make for an unbelievable movie, but of course, it would have to be done correctly. Other possibilities for Capcom would include Mega-Man , Bionic Commando , and Viewtiful Joe . …just don't mess any of 'em up, please.
