Ben-DutkaIt may become the hidden gem of the year; the one game that exceeds all expectations and becomes a must-have title despite having little in the way of fanfare. It seems Infogrames is counting on this, actually, as they have recently revealed that they expect Alone in the Dark to sell 2-3 million units in its current fiscal year.
Chief Executive David Gardner told Reuters that, quite frankly, he's sick of losing money. He also clarified that he has "not been approached by any potential buyer for the company," but things are still a little dicey over at Infogrames. "We want to stop losing money," he said. "This management's team number one goal is to get a business plan together that gets us to a break-even level." Well, that'd be a start, definitely. And he certainly believes Alone in the Dark , the promising survival/horror title scheduled for June (and later this year on the PS3), will rake in some much-needed revenue.
"Over the life of the product in this business year across platforms we are expecting between 2 and 3 million units," Gardner said when asked about sales expectations.
That sounds very optimistic to us, especially considering the Xbox 360, Wii, PS2 and PC versions will have to compete with the likes of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots in June. But then again, if the game turns out as good as we're hoping, 2-3 million could be a very real possibility. Cross your fingers!
