According to several soldiers we know who did their duty during year-long tours in Iraq, they often describe their experiences there as "long periods of boredom punctuated by brief periods of pure terror." Unfortunately, we can't do anything about the latter part, but perhaps we can lend a hand when it comes to alleviating some of that boredom.
In an effort to help out the soldiers, we now have two different charitable sites that deserve your attention. The first kicked off last year; it's called Fun For Our Troops , and it strives to deliver all sorts of "high-tech and interactive" games for those U.S. heroes toiling overseas. Now, another has arrived, and this one focuses on portable gaming (PSP, DS, GBC/GBA)…which makes perfect sense, considering that many soldiers over there are often on the go. It's Games For Heroes , and you can help Peter Gallagher and Jack Wilson in their quest to acquire 10,000 "game machines, batteries and games." Visit the site for more information on how to send our soldiers some fun stuff; it's worth your time.
We certainly hope to see all the troops return home soon, but while they're stuck over there, at least they can have a chance to play something like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII . They deserve at least that much.
