If you hadn't already noticed, the days of PC versions of games being superior to their console counterparts are behind us (for the most part). The belief is becoming more of a stereotype than actual fact, and more evidence of this has arrived courtesy of Far Cry 2 designer, Peter Redding.
Speaking at Play.com Live, Redding told Ripten that he doesn't appreciate the common expectation that the PC version of his game is going to be "infinitely better" than either console version. After moving through some of the open environment found in Far Cry 2 for about 20 minutes, Redding had this to say-
“We’re not changing any aspect of the game,” he said. “All the same content will be in console versions that you’ve seen here; all the same systems and all the same mechanics.”
Essentially, Redding believes that if someone were to play the game on a "really good high-end PC," the experience is going to be "amazing," and the console versions will be "fantastic." You can decide which adjective is more impressive, but the simple bottom line is that console gamers won't get the short end of the stick with this sequel. Redding also mentioned that he just recently played the Xbox 360 version of Far Cry 2 , and it was "already looking better" than what was on display at the event, which was a November 2007 build.
He didn't say anything about the PS3 version, but we do know the game is scheduled for both the 360 and PS3. We'll provide you with more Far Cry 2 info as soon as it becomes available; this is one sequel that's going to kick much ass…on both the PC and consoles.
