Sega Announces Epic RPG: Alpha Protocol

Today, Sega and Obsidian Entertainment have announced a brand new espionage-based RPG for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It's called Alpha Protocol , and developer Obsidian seems to be the perfect developer for such a project. Recent products like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2 were immensely popular, and most fans of those titles have complete faith in Obsidian Entertainment.

"Alpha Protocol blends Obsidian's knack for intricate stories, engrossing characters, and significant character advancement with fast-paced modern combat," said Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian Entertainment. "Alpha Protocol embraces everything we enjoy about making RPGs from a fresh perspective. We are confident our talented staff at Obsidian will enable us to deliver this exciting RPG experience."

You will take control of talented young agent Michael Thorton, who is the only one with the information needed to stop an international catastrophe. Much like Knights of the Old Republic II , the decisions the player makes will dictate the kind of character Thorton will become, and even how the storyline plays out. As the press release said- "Every choice the player makes as Michael Thorton will carry consequences for his future and the fate of the world." This is the kind of freedom role-playing fans typically appreciate, especially in this new generation.

"Working with Obsidian Entertainment on a project of this stature is incredibly exciting for SEGA. We have one of the best independent developers working on what will be one of the definitive games of 2009," stated Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe Ltd. "With innovative RPG action and an incredible interactive storyline to match the very best spy-thrillers, Alpha Protocol delivers a heart thumping high definition experience."

Alpha Protocol is loosely scheduled for a 2009 release, and as soon as Sega decides to offer up some media and added details, we'll be sure to let you know.
