First Details For Heavenly Sword 2

We figured Ninja Theory would make a sequel to their well-received PS3 action title, Heavenly Sword , and it seems we figured correctly. Not only are they planning a sequel, they're apparently interested in turning HS into a trilogy! Furthermore, they're asking the gamers for guidance.

According to Kotaku, Ninja Theory recently conducted a focus group where they took the opinions of several individuals. Here's the full explanation as one tipster tells it:

"They initially asked for video game background, then they had a follow-up phone call asking which games I had played or owned, focusing heavily on Heavenly Sword. There were 3 surveys done on Monday, groups of 6 for the first 2, 4 for the last group (my group). Predominantly males, asking about our impressions on Prince of Persia, God of War, Ninja Gaiden and, of course, Heavenly Sword. Some questions were asked about why Heavenly Sword didn't sell so well, what our impressions were on the gameplay, how the cutscenes were done, combat mechanics."

After that came some new details on Heavenly Sword 2 , which – as far as we know – are the first to arrive regarding this highly anticipated sequel. Firstly, it seems HS2 will take place 10 years after the events in the original, and the main character will either be Kai or a male with a martial arts background. We won't spoil the original title's ending if you haven't seen it yet, but let's just say it'd be difficult to bring Nariko back as the main character. As far as gameplay mechanics, we'll be using the analog more (not sure how, but that's what they say), and the game will also include a variety of different martial arts styles. Lastly, Ninja Theory wants to include a more destructible environment, the storyline with repeatable missions format will return, and there will be downloadable weapons, characters and enemies.

So there you have it; the first set of info for Heavenly Sword 2 . We very much enjoyed the original , so we're definitely looking forward to the sequel. How about you?

I am really stoked about a sequel to HS, I hope Ninja Theory comes up with another fantastic storyline. Even more importantly, I hope they lengthen the game considerably, to at LEAST 12-14 hours or so, and introduce some more fighting mechanics to lessen the repetition. The analog action controls sound cool, whatever they may be. Kudos for Downloadable Content, too! Here's to an even better game, Ninja Theory!

Just make it longer is all I hope for lol, the original was gorgeous and fun…altho short. What about some DLC for it? Geez with all that love and support initially you could spice it up with some extra lvls or something

I think a sequel has a lot of promise for a game like HS. I feel that one of the reasons for the game length was the cost and amount of time involved in creating a game engine from scratch like they did. But a sequel will allow them to use a pre-existing framework, so they'll be able to focus on tweaks to improve gameplay and a longer story. I just hope they keep Andy Serkis as the performance director. He did such a magnificent job…

I can't wait for a sequel, and I hope they use more of Kai…as this article suggests. Kai is an excellent character, utilizing some interesting gameplay mechanics. Nothing is more satisfying than using the Sixaxis to guide an arrow into the head or groin of an approaching enemy.
