It's a general rule of thumb that when being interviewed, you should be careful about what you say. Sometimes, even a simple mistake can kick off a rumor firestorm that is very difficult to counter.
At first, Rockstar's Don Mattrick gave Xbox 360 owners another reason to gloat with the following quote during an interview with Major Nelson:
"It's (GTAIV) an amazing piece of software and I'm really excited with its downloadable content and online multiplayer support. Again, that's something that's unique to 360." He added, "We think consumers are going to love that and it's going to create, what I would describe again as the premium experience on our platform."
Obviously, this implies that both the downloadable content and online multiplayer support are "unique to the 360," which got everyone all riled up. However, Rockstar quickly confirmed to CVG that this was just a wording mistake, and that online multiplayer would indeed be available for both the 360 and PS3 versions of Grand Theft Auto IV . By now, we know the 360 version is getting exclusive episodic content right off the bat, but the PS3 version will be getting its DLC later (and it will probably be exclusive to the PS3). It would make little sense for the multiplayer to be limited to one platform, but we were concerned there for a minute… Anyway, it's all cleared up now.
