PS3 Greatest Hits “Likely” For Europe

Sony has already made plans to release a Platinum (Greatest Hits) set of PlayStation 3 titles for Japan, and now, they have revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that it's "likely" Europe will also be receiving these popular, freshly budget-priced titles.

Sony has issued Greatest Hits/Platinum games for every one of their consoles, and it allows older software to experience a second surge in sales thanks to a significantly lower price tag. We're not sure what the requirements will be this time around, but we believe a title needed to be out for at least 9 months and have sold over 400,000 copies to qualify for the Greatest Hits list on the PS2. The PS3 has been available in Europe for over 10 months now, so if they're using the same criteria, there are a few titles that should be able to make the list.

"We have introduced a Platinum range of best-selling titles for all of our platforms to date, and it is likely that we will do so in the future for PS3," said a spokesperson for the company. "However, no decisions have yet been made on timing or line-up."

Both Resistance: Fall of Man and Ridge Racer 7 are now offered as Platinum titles in Japan, so we would expect at least that pair to be on Europe's Greatest Hit list. There has been no mention of North America, but you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be seeing the Greatest Hit PS3 titles at some point.
