Everyone can't stop talking about Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4 – loosely scheduled for June – but there's another highly accomplished stealth franchise out there: Ubisoft's Splinter Cell series. It may not provide the same level of storytelling quality, but Sam Fisher's focus on realistic gameplay really appeals to fans of the genre.
But up until now, PS3 owners were out in the cold regarding the next SC installment, Splinter Cell: Conviction . Previously only confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PC, one UK retailer now holds a PS3 listing for the game. The online retailer in question, GAME, also gives the highly anticipated title a release date: April 1. This is in stark contrast to the official "TBA 2008" date, and it's a heck of a lot closer than we thought. However, according to CVG, Ubisoft wouldn't confirm either the date or the existence of a PlayStation 3 version of Conviction , which kinda puts a damper on this rumor. Still, retailers often let certain information slip, and sometimes, that info turns out to be accurate.
We'd love to see Splinter Cell: Conviction on the PS3, that's for sure. Furthermore, considering more than a few Ubisoft and Tom Clancy titles are multiplatform – heck, aren't they all? – why shouldn't there be a PS3 version? Remember, Ubisoft wouldn't confirm the game for the PS3, but they didn't necessarily deny it, either…
