Update: FiringSquad has received an official reply from THQ, who said that Frontlines: Fuel of War hasn't been canceled for the PS3, but it is delayed. The Xbox 360 and PC versions are still on track for February 29, but now, the PS3 version won't arrive until "later 2008." Bummer.
Original Story:
When retailers drop an upcoming game from their inventory system, all hell can break loose. While the game isn't a gigantic title, people are still worried about the PS3 version of Frontlines: Fuel of War , which is currently scheduled to arrive on February 29 for the Xbox 360 and PC. But we still haven't received an official date for the PS3 version, and now, it seems the latter version has dropped from retailer lists.
Obviously, this has sparked debate that the PS3 version is either canceled or delayed. Forum posters over at Kaos Studios originally realized that Frontlines PS3 had been removed from the online listings of several U.S. retailers, and the firestorm ensured. In response, a Kaos Studio employee posted the following reply-
"Again, please do not overreact to rumours or, like with release dates, take what retailers say as truth. The timing of this was unfortunate as it was the weekend but there will be actual info shortly."
Well, that's not a confirmation, but it's not exactly a denial, either. We're getting the sneaking suspicion that while the game might not be canceled, it will be delayed on the PS3. Not surprisingly, THQ told VideoGamer.com that they "don't comment on rumor and speculation," a common refrain these days. Let's hope Kaos or THQ gives us the actual word some time this week.
