Ben-DutkaThere's no doubt that Square-Enix has established a stellar reputation over the past 20 years, and they're not about to let their standards drop, according to president Yoichi Wada.
According to Forever-Fantasy.net, Wada released an annual report where he talks briefly about future plans of new and old franchises. If you weren't aware, a few of the recognizable "old" franchises are Kingdom Hearts and Full Metal Alchemist , while new names sitting in the hopper include The Last Remnant for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Young King for the Wii. The Last Remnant is one of the most anticipated games of next year, and its stock rises ever higher the more Final Fantasy XIII gets pushed into the background.
Most importantly, though, Wada has promised they'd never release a game of low quality. As he put it, "We will never lower a franchise's reputation." He goes on to say that Square-Enix isn't entertaining any "drastic changes" in their marketing structure, and believes the "true fans" are the core of their business.
"Take the example of a 10 million fan-base," he said. "If we attempt to enlarge it to 100 million by changing many things, we might hurt the fan-base. There's just no sense to hurt the true fans just to please everyone else."
Some may say Square-Enix's reputation fell a bit during the PS2 generation, but even though they produced a few average-to-decent titles, the likes of Final Fantasy X , Final Fantasy XII , Kingdom Hearts , and Kingdom Hearts II was more than enough to maintain their great reputation. Let's hope they continue!
