Assassin’s Creed: Over 40 Hours Of Gameplay

One of the biggest issues the consumer faces when deciding to purchase a video game is length. After all, we want our money's worth for $60, right? But it's no surprise that many action titles – as good as they are – fall on the short end of the spectrum ( Heavenly Sword is a great example), so we wanted to know about Assassin's Creed . Seriously, Ubisoft, how long is it?

Well, thanks to a recent video interview at GameTrailers with one of the game's producers, Jade Raymond, we now have an idea. She says that, based on play tests, the average length of straight completion has been about 18 hours. However, if you want to go beyond the core missions and explore, there is well over 40 hours of gameplay awaiting the thorough gamer. See, now that's an acceptable length! And besides, based on the format and structure of the game, which Raymond describes as "sandbox-style," there's always more to do in an open-ended environment. Heck, that's part of the definition.

Unfortunately, the interview also yielded one other bit of news: no playable demo will grace the PlayStation Store or Xbox Live. But there's a darn good reason for that, as Raymond noted-

"No, we're not making a demo. The game is a more sandbox-styled game where there's a lot [to do] and [there's] not [really] a linear mission for a demo. [The game] is huge, there's 3 cities and there's no way to say 'ok, we're going to cut up this square of the city and give that to you as a demo.'"

Finally, she verified that the PS3 and 360 versions would be launching simultaneously in November, but the PC version has been delayed until 2008. We really can't wait to get our hands on this one, that's for sure.
