Only a day after EA announced their latest title, Deep Space , Ubisoft has stepped forward and unveiled a new franchise of its own. It's called Tom Clancy's Air Combat , and while it doesn't have an estimated release date, we do know it's being made for all major platforms.
In contrast to other Tom Clancy-themed titles, this one is – obviously – all about the flying. The US is under attack, and it's your job to defend the homeland by piloting some insanely powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters. We'd like to think of it as a blend between Ghost Recon and Warhawk , but there doesn't appear to be a third-person shooting portion in Tom Clancy's Air Combat .
"We are confident that this new brand will become the new benchmark for flight combat games and will be, like other Tom Clancy based games, an instant online multiplayer hit," says Sebastien Delen, managing director at Ubisoft's Bucharest studio, which is handling development for the game. "The player will experience all the action and excitement of modern air combat, from intense dog fighting to tactical strikes."
Well, has there ever been a Tom Clancy game that wasn't a success? It seems like anything with his name on it can't possibly lose, so we can't wait to hear more about it. Hey, they're attacking a whole new dimension!
