Sony: 60GB PS3 Inventory Gone, All On Store Shelves

If you haven't taken the opportunity to pick up the newly reduced 60GB PS3, we suggest you consider a purchase soon. We've known for a while that the new 80GB model would replace the 60GB when the original model's stock is exhausted, and that time is just around the corner. According to PC World, Sony has said all the 60GB PS3s they will manufacture are out and circulating.

"We no longer have any inventory in SCEA warehouses. All inventory has been purchased and shipped to retailers," Sony boss Dave Karraker said. "We don't have visibility as to if that is on their store shelves or in their warehouses at this time. However, based on inventory reports from our retailers, there is ample supply still left in the channel."

The online inventory of 60GB PS3s was completely depleted as of two days ago, and Sony has also hinted at the distinct possibility of a price cut for the 80GB PS3 after they "evaluate market conditions." That quote, which has gotten plenty of attention, said- "We won't be making any further announcements regarding our PS3 model hardware strategy in North America until the 60GB model is exhausted and market conditions are evaluated." Well, we'll wait to see what Sony plans to do, especially if all 60GB PS3s are gone before the holidays hit full swing.
