Update: PSN@Home e-mailed Remedy Games to see if they could get a comment on this rumor, and the response was very simple and straightforward…unfortunately.
"Have not seen this rumor myself thanks for letting me know. No substance to this, Alan Wake is being developed for the 360 and Vista."
Bummer.
Original Story
You know, retailers sometimes get specific – and often unreleased information – before the press gets their greedy little hands on it. But on the other hand, not all retail info is accurate, primarily because most simply want to fill in the blanks in order to take pre-orders. The latest unconfirmed rumor comes courtesy of Amazon.com, where one listing is creating a serious buzz.
On the surface, this appears to be fairly straightforward. But here's the kicker- Alan Wake has only been confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PC; the PS3 was not supposed to be in the picture. Clearly, though, Amazon believes there will be a PS3 version. If you're not familiar, the game is from Max Payne creator, Remedy, and many are treating Alan Wake as the successor to the massively popular and critically acclaimed franchise. To have this game come to the PS3 would be…well, pretty damn big. Amazon also lists the release date as March 21, 2008, which would be more big news, as up until now, the date has officially been "TBA 2008."
We have no idea if this is nothing more than a misprint or misinformation, but there is the possibility that Amazon knows something we don't. Either way, this is something that's bound to prompt a clarification, and we'll be on the lookout for that. Until then, keep your fingers crossed!
