Ben-DutkaSony picked up some major recognition yesterday, thanks to the Develop Industry Excellence Awards, which took place last night at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in the UK. The event was attended by over 500 games industry executives, and Sony picked up the biggest honor of the evening: the Grand Prix award, which is given for "capping 12 months which have seen the firm deliver a new hardware format that has inspired developers around the world to make cutting-edge next generation games."
We've seen a major turnaround in Sony and PS3-related news over the past few months, and this award is like the capper to this upswing the electronics giant is currently enjoying. Other top awards handed out included the game industry's "Publishing Hero" award (given to Sega) and best "In-House Developer" (Ubisoft France). As for games, the PS3 title MotorStorm received an award for "New Console IP," and the PSP's Crush was awarded the best "New Handheld IP."
Obviously, these Awards center on UK and European companies, so that's why certain developers and publishers wouldn't be eligible for the event's accolades. But even so, receiving the show's most prestigious award is definitely a good thing for Sony. Congrats!
