E3 2007: Sony Talks GTA IV Online Content…Kinda

We've known for a while that the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV will have exclusive downloadable content on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but many gamers have misinterpreted that announcement. It simply means a certain batch of content will indeed be exclusive to the 360, but it does not mean the PS3 version won't have any content at all on the PlayStation Network. In fact, it's possible the Store will have its own exclusive content.

Evidence of this has come from an online GameStop listing of the game (under the category of "Downloadable Content" for the PS3 version, it says "Yes"), and of course, we wanted to hear more at E3. EGM asked Phil Harrison about it, and while he did answer, it was a bit vague and cryptic…but still encouraging.

"As the head of the [internal Sony] studios it's hard for me to comment on the third party relations, so I don't know the details of that — we deliberately keep those separate — but we have a great relationship with Rockstar and we're actually working closely with them on a number of initiatives, so I do know some things that are going on but I'm not able to share those with you now."

"Some things going on." …well, we can live with that for now. Whatever the announcement is, it will probably quell the cry of, "GTA IV PS3 won't have downloadable content," because we sincerely doubt that's the case. As soon as either Rockstar or Sony decides to talk more about this, we'll let you know.
