Minecraft Creator Plunks Down $70 Million For A Mansion

All for a more complex digital version of LEGO?

According to a Polygon report, Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson just bought a house. …and that's the understatement of the year.

To be specific, he purchased a Beverly Hills mansion for a ridiculous $70 million. To get it, he outbid the likes of Jay-Z and Beyonce and if the deal goes through, it will be the highest price ever paid for a home in Beverly Hills. The property includes "luxury furnishings" (well, duh), a 54-foot automated glass door that opens into an infinity pool with iPad-controlled fountains, and other insane amenities.

Persson owned 70 percent of Mojang when they sold to Microsoft for $2.5 billion September, which means he would've made about $1.75 billion. So yeah, he'd have more than enough for this house and Jay-Z and Beyonce would've had no hope.

Minecraft is as much of a digital version of Lego as Uncharted is a simple Tomb Raider knockoff.
But 2.5 Billions for it is insanity…

He's got over a billion, it's warm so women wear less And that happens to be one of the main places where your importance is measured by your bank account balance

Still think a Seaside mansion on the coast of Spain, or a Villa in Monaco would've been more wise. Though hell good luck finding one for sale in Monaco actual property is rare and Apartments alone can cost upwards of $100 million.

Or he could have been like Sir Richard Branson and bought his own massive private island.

Beverly Hills just seems like a place for people who want to feel richer than they are. This guy is a Billionaire now surprised he would want to live in the land of plastic surgery and walking into pools while texting.

Wow even $70 million is nothing from his pocket. That must feel very weird at first, like you're no longer human.

Good job on him. It must be very humbling to know he started it all with just a little Java.

Gives me hope. If I made a fraction of that from thinking something smart, I'd give money to all my school grad Class of 2012 peers. To help with whatever loans they have and fly to me from wherever they are to have a reunion 😀 then charity.

I just don't get how Beverly Hills can be *that* attractive. For that amount of money you'd get a real estate on a friggin tropical ISLAND all for yourself, with all the technology and fantastic architectural features you yould point your fingers at.

This just looks like a sad moment of "I'm bored, let's just show off".

Yeah really, I live in the LA area myself but regardless how much money I had there's no way I'd spend it in Beverly Hills…

I smell corruptions and tax evasion…. Assets bought by bank loan, not cash rich. As usual in America….would be debt ridden in bad times.
