People love to be a part of history.
As most of you know by now, hundreds of copies of classic Atari games were recovered in a New Mexico landfill earlier this year. The diggers were following up on the supposed urban myth that Atari buried a bunch of E.T. games when the product flopped back in 1983.
Well, it turns out the myth was reality and in fact, many more games were buried there as well. Now, it has been revealed that the first auction for these recovered games raked in $37,000, with some games going for over $1,500. Vice president of the Tularosa Basin Historical Society said it was "way beyond anything we expected," as they received bids from all over the world.
The town of Alamogordo has over 700 more Atari games to sell, including more copies of E.T. along with Centipede and Missile Command . These will be sold in future eBay auctions in the coming weeks; if you want to snag one, you better be prepared to ante up!
Meanwhile anybody who still has the game lying around is rolling it in sand so they can sell it on ebay for big bucks 🙂
That's just crazy. Is this money going to charity or something? I mean it was a rumor for years, and it's really cool that it ended up being true, but It's not $1500 cool.
One man's trash is another man's treasure
well i hope who ever got them is happy i certainly wouldn't have done so
happy gaming
