Tetris Movie In The Works, But The Blocks Won’t Be Characters

Of all the video games in existence, maybe the L-Block is the least likely big-screen character.

And yet, as The Wall Street Journal reports today, a movie based on the legendary Tetris is in the works. Threshold Entertainment describes the project as "a very big, epic sci-fi movie."

They haven't hired any actors just yet, but perhaps that's because the game doesn't have any actors. I mean, not even a narrator. But Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff said they won't be "giving feet to the geometric shapes," so somehow, they're inputting a story and characters. Kasanoff said it doesn't really matter, though; it's all in the name:

"Brands are the new stars of Hollywood. We have a story behind Tetris which makes it a much more imaginative thing. …what you [will] see in Tetris is the teeny tip of an iceberg that has intergalactic significance."

It seems like a totally insane idea but then again, you can't say you're not intrigued. The ongoing joke of, "what would happen if they tried to turn Tetris into a movie" has become a reality, and now we just gotta see it.

Not sure how I feel about this…

I'll be looking for it on Bluray I guess. Could be the most artistic expressive film since The Room, by Tommy Wisseau.
