GameStop Staffing Up For Holiday Rush

Do you remember long, slow-moving lines at GameStop last holiday season?

Hopefully, things will move faster this year. The retailer has announced plans to hire around 25,000 people across the US in preparation for the year's busiest season. That's 8,000 more than last year.

The holiday quarter is critical: About 40 percent of all GameStop's annual revenue comes in during the October – December span and if that falls short, their bottom line is gonna look ugly . 17,000 in 2013 obviously wasn't enough to accommodate the throngs of customers so in order to better serve the customer, more employees are coming in. Said GameStop human resources boss Mike Buskey:

"To deliver on this promise, we are nearly doubling our seasonal hiring efforts this year to ensure our stores, distribution centers, and refurbishment operation center are appropriately staffed to meet the customer demand we expect to receive during the holidays."

Unsurprisingly, most people will be entry-level Game Advisers, although the company also needs around 250 consumer electronic technicians in its refurbishment operation center, along with warehouse personnel for the company's two distribution centers in Grapevine, Texas and Louisville, Kentucky. Hiring begins now and will continue through the middle of October.

After January 9, they probably won't need you anymore, though. Just bear that in mind.
