NYU Will Offer A Bachelor’s Degree In Video Game Design

If you're looking to break into the exciting world of video game development, here's another opportunity.

According to The New York Times , the NYU Game Center, a department within the Tisch School of the Arts, will be accepting applicants for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Design. Twenty students from within NYU will be accepted into the program in January, followed by 40 first-year applicants starting in Fall 2015.

Game Center director Frank Lantz said this degree will help students understand "the significance of game design as not only a potential career but as a way of thinking about the world." NYU joins George Mason University, which earlier announced plans for a similar degree, which will combine sports and the study of game design.

Man, if only this kind of stuff had been available when I was preparing to go to college. 🙁

I think my school offers one of these as well, or something very similar. Everything is being made into a bachelors degree now, it lets schools charge more because god knows universities don't make enough these days…

If all the money didn't go toward athletic programs, maybe we could actually get somewhere.

Yeah, the money into athletics at educational facilities is super weird in the states. Some of our provinces, it's illegal to provide athletic scholarships. In none of them can you get a free ride.

I was offered scholarships for x-country running after I graduated high school. In the states, the most I was offered was 15k. In Canada, the most I was offered was 1k. lol That's a weird difference.

Where I live there have been two schools that offer this degree for some years now. It's good to see it expanding into major universities!

Some day, some day. Too many other career objectives at the moment, but I really don't want to die with out putting the imagination into tangible form.

i was thinking about it and a friend of mine tried and well it wasn't too be for either of us just not our cup of tea, stick to playing games not making them.but i'm sure it'll be for someone after someone has to make the games that we are playing right.
