Reading Rainbow Initiative Fully Funded

The Kickstarter campaign is over and the promising project has hit all its stretch goals.

LeVar Burton's crowdfunding attempt to bring "Reading Rainbow" to "every child, everywhere" has closed, and after 105,857 backers donated $5,408,916, the new initiative has been fully funded. This means it will come to all mobile devices and consoles; it was initially planned as a mere web application.

This hugely successful campaign makes it the fifth highest-grossing campaign in the history of Kickstarter and actually, if you count "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane's contribution, the total pledged amount comes to around $6.4 million. Previously, MacFarlane vowed that he would match every dollar contributed beyond the $4 million mark. The new "Reading Rainbow" project re-invigorates the classic PBS television show, and will feature an "unlimited library" of books and video field trips for "today's digitally connected kids."

We're all for any initiative that encourages kids to read. And who can forget, "but you don't have to take my word for it"?

That's excellent. If I had kids I would force them to check this out. Everyone remembers Reading Rainbow well, that's why they got all that money pledged.
