Hell yeah, it better be "permanent."
Red Dead Redemption received widespread critical acclaim and went on to sell over 13 million copies. Ever since then, fans of the awesome Western open-world saga have been pining for a follow-up effort.
Thankfully, publisher Take-Two Interactive has labeled the Red Dead brand as a "permanent" franchise, akin to Grand Theft Auto V and Borderlands . Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said as much during a Cowen and Company analyst conference (as summarized at GameSpot ), and he also talked about his company's "selective approach" to releasing games. No "annualization" goin' on here:
"The risk of just [releasing more games] is that you end up just bulking up your release schedule and that isn't really what consumers want. Consumers want better, not more. So our selective approach, which we've taken since '07 I think has paid off. Now, we have gotten more by taking that approach; we've launched one new successful franchise every year and I would like to keep doing that particularly because I talk about permanent franchises, but not everything is going to be a permanent franchise. Some of our great franchises eventually will lose their luster and some will hopefully be permanent."
Then Zelnick said he could assure consumers that certain IPs are "permanent," and that includes Red Dead . We've heard Take-Two speak highly of this successful brand before, so it's probably inevitable that a new title is coming soon…maybe they'll even announce it at E3, who knows?
If you missed out on Red Dead Redemption back in 2010, you are deprived, my friend.
It was good but I got bored with it, maybe it's because the ending got spoiled or all that wasted space but I'd really rather get another Manhunt or Bully.
I had doubts about this game but it surprised me over and over again. My only complaint about red dead was the ending.
But that last squeeze of the trigger was satisfying.
There's a kind of fatalism that Marston carries around with him and it does fit the western genre. He deserved better but as Bill Munny tells Daggett in Unforgiven, "deserve's got nothing to do with it".
I'm looking forward to seeing the next Red Dead on PS4.
well i am liking what i am hearing if this is really true this is one of the most fantastic bits of news in a friking long time.
happy gaming =)

THIS! How is it that Take-Two gets it and no-one else does? Never mind, I know the answer, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. That's why I'm content to wait months and months before picking up any franchises that releases any more frequently than 1.5 years apart.
YES ! YES ! YES ! Thank you rockstar i love Red Dead Redemption especially the online muliplayer shame the plugged is pulled to today but anyways cant wait for Red Dead 2
no sh*t sherlock of course there going to continue borderlands, RD, and GTA.
when franchises are launching to sales in the millions of units PER DAY you dont discontinue them!

back to you kim.
Racist! Not all reporters are Asian!
I played the hour trial and it bored me out of my mind but it's good news for the ones that enjoyed the title.
The first hour is pretty much all prologue but it does get a lot better later.
I'm sure I'll try the first one some day.
