Thatgamecompany Lands $7 Million To Help Fund New Project

Thatgamecompany's new project is a go!

As announced at the developer's website , the team has raised $7 million for their next game, which is currently unannounced.

The funding comes from venture capital firm Capital Today and a team of other investors, who, according to a statement from the designers- "share our vision in making meaningful interactive experiences that inspire, connect, and emotionally touch the hearts of players around the world." Yeah, and it probably helps that you've got a multiple award-winner like Journey on your resume as well.

Thatgamecompany has now entered "the next phase of development" and the newly acquired $7 million will ramp things up and let the studio create the "best game possible." The developer intents to self-publish going forward and of course, that takes money. As for the unannounced project in question, all they'll say is that it'll be an "emotionally engaging experience centered around human connections for players of all ages and backgrounds."

Well, of course. It's Thatgamecompany.

Looking forward to it but I bet they are feeling the pressure now to be utterly awesome. It's hard to live up to Journey and make Lightning strike twice.

Jesus you're right, that woman took control of me as a goddess from outer space with time traveling abilities and made me capitalize her name there.

At least each strike hit you with fewer polygons than the last!

Journey was amazing, and made on $5.5M. I reckon their next game could be spectacular, especially with a bigger budget and no publisher to influence what they're doing in any way.
