E.T. Atari Cartridges Found In Landfill

The myth is true! Well sort of.

Earlier in the month we told you about an upcoming documentary funded by Microsoft's Entertainment Studios that sought to learn the truth behind the urban legend that truckloads of unsold copies of the terrible Atari game based on Steven Spielberg's E.T. The Extraterrestrial were disposed of in landfills in New Mexico.

Yesterday construction workers on the dig unearthed proof that it could all be true.

"Construction crews have uncovered copies of the Atari 2600 game at a landfill deep in the New Mexico desert, near the city of Alamogordo."

“Copies” doesn't exactly mean that a metric ton of them were found or anything but more could still be out there and most myths have a kernel of truth to them somewhere don't they?

Still pretty cool. My wife actually had the unfortunate experience of playing the game.

I wonder if any old bags of Reese's Pieces were found along side them. Like one's with ET advertising on them…

Well there's actually a lot more to the doc, it's about gaming in general through the decades and that was a small portion.

Well the documentary is going to be exclusive to 360 and X1 owners.

It will center on how the videogame industry has evolved since the Atari days. But keep in mind that the whole thing is being financed by Microsoft. So expect to see things portrayed in a way that makes them look good.
