Say goodbye to several of the most entertaining online experiences of the previous generation.
Sony is ending online support for the entire Resistance series on April 8. This means that within the next few days, you will no longer be able to enjoy online multiplayer fun with Resistance: Fall of Man , Resistance 2 , or Resistance 3 .
Insomniac said on Twitter that it wasn't their decision; Sony controls the servers:
"There are a large variety of reasons why they have to shut down. Sony makes that call though, not us. They maintain online."
As for whether or not online support for the Vita title, Resistance: Burning Skies , will end, the developer says they don't know. That one might stick around for a little longer. I just wish Insomniac would make another Resistance title because really, that was my favorite FPS franchise of the PS3 generation. Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 were great, but I just found the Resistance games to be…I don't know, more fun, I guess.
Also, don't forget that Resistance 2 was one of the very first console titles to offer 64-player action online. That was nuts .
I'm still sad I never used my pass for Resistance 3 multiplayer :'( – methinks because online isn't required for Platinum. Would have been much more fun casually online anyway.
R2 was grreeeat. The best multiplayer, even better than Halo 3 which I loved. Wish people could've seen that. Peace out soldiers
Now I wish I had played them more online cuz I did like it. Resistance was something special for those of us that clicked with it. Now I wanna play again.
Resistance FoM in my opinion was the best online mp this last generation. It's too bad R2 went away from the original formula. I think that's where the game went downhill was the mp focus that wasn't as good. R3 did right by the franchise to bring a good ending to it. Unfortunately too late for it to be as successfully received as the first.

Wow. Resistance FoM multiplayer may have been good at the time, but COD4 blew it away.
Say what you want about the trend of COD ever since, but COD4 was the breakout game for FPS multiplayer on consoles.
Uhhhh…This is what happens to online after a few years.
Why would you want to buy a game that was online only? This is why I could care less if Titanfall ever shows up on PS4.
Give me a solid SP campaign any day, then 20 years later if I want to play it I can!
Resistance 2 had the best MP in my opinion. The CO-OP was just amazing! I haven't really found a MP that is that much FUN since that game.
yeah well i didn't play much online on the ps3 relative to the ps4 cos most of the games and stuff that i did on the ps3 was single player. and i didn't get either of those games till 2 years ago
happy gaming =)

R.I.P one of the best developers this industry has ever seen!
I'm a slightly bigger fan of Killzone, but I like the Resistance series a lot and would love to see it come to PS4. It will have to be a different developer than Insomniac though since apparently the PS fanbase which lined that company's pockets for years isn't good enough for it anymore.
Resistance 2 holds a special place in my heart as one of the 2 titles (along with COD4) that santa brought be along with a Ps3 in the balmy winter of 07 ending my 20 year gaming hiatus. The MP was nuts – Conquest in Metro nuts.
C'mon Insomniac do the right thing and get working on 4
Yeah wish I had played them more along the last few years since I've had 'em… but I just got the nice Sony Pulse Elite wireless headset as a Christmas gift a few months ago; therefor I wasn't as involved in online before since the only way I could communicate vocally was with the PSEye if/when a game allowed, but even then it was nowhere as sufficient to communicate with as a solid headset.
Upside: I did play R2 online as often as I could though for the last 2-3 months and managed to level up my classes to 30 and my overall rank as 32 or thereabouts. :)I made a few friends through R2. I don't recall ever trying playing R:FoM online (although at least there's still local 4-player split-screen multiplayer), but the 2 player limit to R2 is disapointing. Another option to play the first and third in multi-player is spilt-screen co-op through the campaign I think. Downside: It's disappointing though that the online is no longer an option for the PS3 iterations anyway, and, local multi-player options are minimal and more so lackluster in 2 and 3. 🙁
