Well, here's an interesting wrinkle.
According to a Tweet from Interceptor Entertainment CEO Frederik Schreiber, his company has acquired Apogee Software, which owns 3D Realms. If you weren't aware, 3D Realms is best known for producing Duke Nukem 3D .
Last month, a teaser website for a game called Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction launched. It was supposed to be a top-down action/RPG for PC and PlayStation platforms. The site once featured a countdown timer that would've ended on February 25, but has since been replaced with a fake emergency broadcast signal. Why? Well, maybe because on February 23, Duke Nukem Forever developer Gearbox Software filed a lawsuit against Apogee and Interceptor, arguing over the rights to the iconic Duke Nukem IP.
So, how does Interceptor's acquisition of Apogee affect things? Guess we'll find out soon enough…
It's all an elaborate conspiracy to regenerate interest in Duke after DNF was a letdown. You'll see, it'll all spiral out from here.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Gearbox has the claim here though, don't they? They purchased the rights to the Duke Nukem franchise as a whole when they got DNF. So… it doesn't matter that Apogee got 3D Realms because 3DR doesn't own Duke anymore?
But now, the enter into negotiations. In a month's time, Gearbox sanctions the creation of Mass Destruction and BAM! Because the issue of legality was in the public spotlight, there is instant interest in the new Duke.
Yup, probably all orchestrated by Gearbox. Then if it hits, like Lara Croft: Guardian of Light did for others, they can get a full next gen game greenlit.
well what ever cos i don't really care as this isn't my kinda game
happy gaming =)
pretty sure gearbox bought the whole license with the DNF debacle so interceptors purchase of 3D relms really shouldent change anything.
kinda glad gearbox filed the suit, a top down RPG for a duke game?
you have to be f*cking kidding me!
whats next, crash bandicoot diablo 3 edition?
so f*cking sick of people taking beloved franchises and putting them in such stupid silly genres that just do not suit them at all!
