But Lightning as Lara Croft…?
To celebrate the successful launch of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition , Square Enix has announced some special downloadable content for the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII . It's a Lara Croft outfit, complete with her outfit, climbing ax, and riot shield. It's not the first time a publisher has tried some cross-promotion with DLC, but Square Enix doesn't usually try it.
I'm really not sure if players want Lightning to dress up as Lara Croft. It might just further remind them that in fact, Final Fantasy has become an action/RPG, and this DLC definitely puts the emphasis on action. Of course, the gameplay won't change just because of the outfit, but you get what I mean.
Anyway, Lightning Returns arrives on February 11.

Square is doing everything they can to make sure that this actually sells as much as it can. Reeks of desperation to me, to be very honest. Oh well. I'm waiting for the HD remasters for X and X-2. That will give me an authentic Final Fantasy fix.
lol, the Mass Effect outfits were pretty weird in XIII-2 but this silly DLC is getting out of hand. Final Fantasy used to be sacred, now it's a mockery of both itself and other games.
I really hope all these desperate measures are met with a giant flop so SE can learn a thing or three.
I tried finishing XIII-2 last night…didn't last more than 10 minutes till I quit the game. And to think I bought the collectors edition on day1. I definitely wont be doing that with this latest FF dud.
I'd rather have a real Final Fantasy game instead.

FFX will save them. At least long enough for me to get a FFXII HD hopefully.
One could only hope that FFXII HD is coming next.
I'd pay well over $100 for it. I know it gets a lot of hate from the FF community but it's one of my favorite games in the entire series.

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like the character gets less independent and unique when she imposes as other more well known characters? Isn't that the wrong way to become memorable?
Also, yesterday I was in EB, and they had the pre-orders on the shelf marked at $64.99. Is that their way of trying to ensure they'll make a profit?
I agree about the characters. I'm guessing they figure the more money they can get from the initial sales the better off they will be since the reviews will cause the price to go down rapidly.

No, I'm asking. Looking at the trailer had I not seen it was related to Tomb Raider by text I would have no idea… it's just Lightning in a tanktop… dirty.
No interest in this crap, just as World mentioned about how bad it was when XIII-2 had Mass Effect costumes in the game – completely unrelated.
The problem with these costumes in general is that it makes Lightning even less distinctive. Look at how they use Cloud's image and popularity through the suit. LR:FFXIII doesn't have an iconic attire for lightning to define her, heck even XIII-1 & XIII-2 she had unique costumes, seeing Lightning in armor in Vallhala in the first trailer was epic. You have the suit she wears in the boxart bit it looks like something out of Bayonetta… So in a way I am glad there are costumes, so I wont have to put up with that.
I wish they formed Lighting as a human being, it's interesting how one of story points of XIII-1 is to have Lightning admit her own them… then she just goes on to be Lightning once more… I would have liked to have seen C—– instead.

Yeah , my wallet got no place for the travesty that is lightning returns until it s dirt cheap and i m bored out of my mind .
Oh and let s not forget ff x hd that i ll rather replay then a NEW ff game , that says a lot about how bad FF got ( used to lose sleep over waiting for a new one releasing soon ) .
