Chalk up another award for The Last Of Us .
The critically acclaimed masterpiece from developer Naughty Dog has earned the Writer's Guild of America's Outstanding Achievement in Writing for Video Games. Specifically, creative director Neil Druckmann received the award.
The other nominees were: Batman: Arkham Origins , God of War: Ascension , and Lost Planet 3 . Yeah, Lost Planet 3 . Thing is, in order to be eligible for this particular award, submitted games must have a separate credit for writing, and the credited writer(s) must be a member of the WGA's Videogame Writers Caucus. Membership only costs $100/year but obviously, not a ton of writers are signed up.
Druckmann replied to a series of congratulatory messages on his Twitter page :
"Thanks for all the kind words, y'all. Once again I couldn't be prouder to be a Naughty Dog. Shout out to all my fellow nominees! #WGAawards"
Despite the lack of competition, there are few game stories in 2013 that were more deserving of TLoU. For the record, we gave our Best Writing/Story Award to Bioshock Infinite , although Naughty Dog's gem was certainly nominated.

I know the story was someone cliche, but that's not the most important thing when it comes to telling a story. The characters are what matter the most. The rest is just plot and subtext.
And Naughty Dog dig a great jobs with the characters.
Lost Planet 3… 😀
I don't care what the explanation is: Whoops there goes all credibility from *that* award.
Seriously guys – I'm not saying ND didn't deserve this or any other prize. But seeing who the candidates are it is legit to ask how many contestants there really was in this contest.
"the credited writer(s) must be a member of the WGA's Videogame Writers Caucus."
How many people do you suppose bother being a part of this?
Exactly.
thing that made TLoU so amazing is how restrained and well setup it is.
everything done so perfectly, i mean the giraffe scene, they could of screwed that up so easily but it was just perfect!
even the buildup where elie is so cold and distant to you, something totally the opposite to how she normally is.
for once ND actually got the writing and their character development spot on!
now, WTF couldent they do this with uncharted 2!?
