Tales Of Zestiria Announced, Series To Celebrate 20 Years

For JRPG fans, the Tales franchise has delivered the goods for many years.

And to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the esteemed series, Namco Bandai Games America Inc. has announced Tales of Zestiria , the newest entry in the beloved role-playing series. They didn't provide us with a release date, but we know it's coming to the PlayStation 3 in North and South America.

Zestiria "returns to the series roots" and includes character designs by all four of the franchise's accomplished designers: Mutsumi Inomata, Kosuke Fujishima, Daigo Okumura and Minoru Iwamoto. Returning to develop the game's cut-scenes is ufotable Inc. Tales series producer Hideo Baba said that this game is a response to the "love and support" of fans worldwide, and chief producer Makoto Yoshizumi added:

2015 marks the 20th anniversary for the TALES OF franchise in Japan and I would like to thank all the fans who have supported us for the past two decades from the bottom of my heart. In recent years we have received anticipation for the series not only from Japan, but from overseas fans as well. Because of this I feel that the TALES OF series has more potential than ever before. For this reason we are taking this opportunity to announce TALES OF ZESTIRIA as a worldwide title. This title will be going back to the roots of the series and boldly exclaim to the world ‘this is TALES OF!’"

JRPG aficionados have probably played several of these great titles in the past, and it's nice to see that more entries are on the way. Here's a good reason to hang onto your PS3!

It's not on the PS4 because their fan base is largely on the PS3, and the PS4 is not even out in Japan right now, even though it will be once the game comes out, it takes a while for the Japanese to adopt a new system.

This game looks really good!

But with Tales of Xillia 2 only just being released and now finished for NA I assume this won't be available for years.

it was a worldwide announcement. it will come out in at most a couple months after. it will not be like xillia where it takes a couple years.

Awesome, but what does it mean to return this to it's roots? If the battles are going back to a 2D fighting game style then I won't really be so stoked.

Hm, my pants feel somewhat tighter…

On a more serious note, I wonder what they mean by returning to its roots? One of the great things about the series is that it never really left them. Maybe they'll bring back the world map?

The PS3 is finally delivering on the JRPG goodness. Three Tales of games (Xillia 2, Symphonia Chronicles, and now Zestiria), Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD, Drakengard 3, Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix, and my personal most-awaited JRPG, Persona 5.

No way am I letting go of my PS3 even when I already have the PS4. That said, I still hope that Namco Bandai would still release Tales of Vesperia on the PS3 as I heard it was really good.
