The latest PlayStation 3 firmware update is here, and it delivers a few very useful features that were once exclusive to Plus members.
As detailed over at the PlayStation Blog , firmware update 4.50 has been released. It's available to download at any time, so get to it.
The new version adds the following to your console:
— Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
— Auto download support of purchases made on the Sony Entertainment Network online store will be made available to all PSN users.
— New options for trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.
— Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection.
With the auto download features for system updates and SEN online store purchases, you can actually set a two-hour interval for your PS3 to run on from standby mode. That's when it will check for updates and any new content that's ready to go. I've already downloaded it and I'm really hoping that firmware updates for the PS4 are a little…well, quicker.
i did both my ps3s and they were about 5 minutes each. how long did it take for you?
same, maybe a lil less
What they should really do is FIX THE PLAYSTATION STORE!!!!
It's just too damn slow and herky-jerky to navigate. Why this hasn't been raised as an issue, and addressed by now, amazes me…
I sure hope the PS4 Playstation Store isn't like this. =/
The Store for the PS4 won't have this issue, it's build into the software on the system, instead of it being an app like PS3. (That and the limited ram)
I wouldve purchased more dlc if the store wasnt so slow. I didnt even want to check ny trophies anymore because the loading is like pulling teeth out
I feel your pain godsman. xD
This is greatly appreciated stuff. Not sure why they needed to charge me for the ps3 to wake itself up in the first place (my Timex alarm clock never asked for a quarter to do it's job) but apparently they figured that out.
I do like the hiding of trophies thing. I don't care to have some 0% games make less pretty my glorious trophy collection =p

And playstation network is now "PSN"… I thought they were changing it to SEN like 2 years ago?
They did, but i and many others still called it PSN. lol
I downloaded this update immediately after watching a movie… then my PS3 broke.
I am, sadly, a victim of the YLOD. So… I will have to wait a while before I can see the benefit of this latest update. I didn't have this PS3 for a whole year… *grumble*
yea thats one thing they cud really improve on with the ps4 it does get a little anoiying and frustrating at times
happy gaming =)
anyone else still need to download the FW after the auto download?
noticed this for the past few updates ever since i turned automatic updates on.
you turn your ps3 on and it tells you what it automatically downloaded, it said its downloaded the latest FW but when you go to update it downloads it again.
WTF!?
so whats the point of having auto downloads on if you still need to manually download it anyway?
Because you have to accept the new TOS when it comes out yourself.
then move that to the install.
theres no point downloading something, than forcing people to download it again.
1 its a waste of time.
2 its a waste of my download usage!
it doesent download latest patches either, twice this week ive booted up GTAV to be promted to download a new patch.
ahhhhhhh, could have sworn i just turned my ps3 on to see patches for other games automatically downloaded and installed.
sigh.
Since this update my PS3 hasn't been auto-updating and whenever I turn it on I no longer get automatically logged into the PSN even though I have the option selected. =S
