GTAV Online Sounds Incredibly Immersive And Very Diverse

I don't like the microtransaction part, but the rest sounds unassailably awesome .

The online portion of the recently released Grand Theft Auto V will go live tomorrow and if you want to know what to expect, here's a brief summary (credit to a Reddit AMAA ).

There's all sorts of stuff to buy, and a great many things to do. If you're into customization, all the tattoo parlors and clothes shops are unlocked right from the start, and you can choose the appearance of your four grandparents, which will ultimately affect the look of your online character. This is a feature some hardcore RPGs should use in the future, don't you think? As for properties, they won't be cheap, and you'll have to reach rank 8 or 9 before you can start buying.

There are houses and apartments up for sale and if you want 'em, you gotta put some work in. Other players will text you with various missions, and you can even bet on the winners of Deathmatches and Races to earn extra cash. The tester also detailed a store robbery, in which you point a gun at the clerk, have him empty the register into a bag, and then take off. But some shopkeepers are packing heat, so be careful! Oh, and you can yell into the headset and the clerk will fill your bag faster. I laughed at that.

Then there's Passive Mode, during which time you can't be killed, which sounds like something that just lets you explore the vast environment. Obviously, you can't have this mode turned on when doing a mission, and it's a little odd that it actually costs money (maybe $100 or $500) to enable Passive Mode. There's also a reputation system, so you can't constantly drop out of matches over and over, or the game will brand you a poor loser. Lastly, as for the missions, many require at least two players, while a few ask for as many as eight. And there will be over 500 missions available at the start. Just a massive amount of content!

Excited yet?

I get mmo vibes from all this. Sounds like they finally are getting the online part of their games right too!

Except for the fact that MMOs suck.

One would think that for your first post here, you'd have something interesting or constructive to say.

You've played them all? Impressive.

I've only played a handful but a couple of them were actually quite good; Anarchy Online and Star Wars Galaxies.

But the experience depends a lot of on the people you end up hanging out with. If you were as charming there as you appear to be here I would guess you spent a lot of time alone.

Now — how interesting and exciting are those 500 missions? Please don't give me missions to repo cars around the city.

Time will tell how good the online portionn is. To answer your question – Yes, I'm excited. I will have time to enjoy this before i begin Graduate school next year (yay me).

Sucks that the money you've earned won't carry over to the mp, it just seems to make things easier when to purchase items instead spending a lot of time or real money if u want to get the expensive stuff.

I'm actually glad to hear that everyone starts from scratch upon playing MP. Since it's relatively easy to amass a lot of money in the campaign, having all of that money available in MP from the get go would mean that everyone would be able to acquire powerful weapons and buy a lot of properties. Besides, you're starting as a new character, you aren't Michael, Franklin, or Trevor.

I agree with you that.

I don't mind having to put in a lot of work to fatten up my bank account separately from the single player as long as everything's as polished and enjoyable as IT is and at this point…it seems pretty likely it will be.

Hell I put in countless hours into IV's online and it was a pretty flawed experience. Luckily I just so happen to have this week off so guess who's stocking the fridge with beer, shutting off the cellphone, and taking a trip to Los Santos for a week….dis guy.

Nice avatar (Loved Castlevania LoS)

Enjoy the week of gaming. I'm sure it's well deserved.

I am excited at having to work for everything. Having it all handed to you would be boring and would probably make the experience substantially less engaging.

Ugh I wish I could just buy the mutliplayer 🙁 I'm really not interested one bit in the SP game.

Oh well once this game is cheap enough Ill probably get it for the MP which sounds incredibly fun.

Hmmm GTA is not my thing, but glad its there for the fans. I keep hearing everyone tell me its ground breaking but not really seen what that means in regards to the industry. Well, other than getting more money out of gamers through micro transactions.

And the more I hear about GTA … sounds like a spinoff of the SIMs but with the added advantage to do violence. lol.

To each their own… and enjoy.

Keep playing!

amazing and kinda pathetic that the most anticipated MP for the year is actually the SP but with friends!
wish R* would put this into the campaign though, it would of been cool to rob stores and create your own heists.

You can rob stores and create heists in single player of GTA5 too, can't you?

nope.
most guys behind the counter are packing so they will just shoot and kill you.
one thing i love doing, get a wanted level and go hide in a shop behind the counter.
the cops will bust in start shooting at the counter and the cashier will shoot back and they will spend 20 minutes shooting at eachother.
for some reason the cashier never dies.
until the cops wise up and walk around the counter and shoot you instead.
stupid thing if you shoot back at the cops the cashier shoots you instead.
i wanted to team up with the guy and see how many of them we could take down!

I was dissapointed that you cannot rob banks in GTA V outside of the story missions.
