Ah, well, this makes sense.
When we heard that a movie based on the iconic racing franchise Gran Turismo was in the works, we were a little confused. A driving simulator without even the semblance of a story or characters, designed specifically with a laser focus on cars and racing, doesn't seem like a good fit for Hollywood.
But now we understand the approach. GT creator and Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi told Destructoid that in fact, the film has been pitched for the last seven years, and all offers were rejected until producers Michael de Luca and Dana Brunetti ("The Social Network") gave Yamauchi a script he liked. It will feature the life of Lucas Ordonez, a pro racer who began his career as a young lad playing Gran Turismo video games.
The movie will start with his mother being concerned that he was spending too much time playing games, and as such, the picture will tackle themes of "growth and maturity" as Ordonez begins his rise to racing champion. There is no director for the film and we don't have a full cast yet, but at least this sounds promising. We should've figured they'd use a subject similar to GT Academy, which takes the best GT players and seeks to turn one into a real-life racer. Now that fits a movie.
It's great knowing that GT is real enough for pros to simulate their driving on.
Cant wait for the day when You can put AI in Multiplayer matches and a real damage simulator.
I actually was still hoping for something a little more real. Like a biography on racing. Not focused on one person. And more so a made for tv type thing. I dont know, still seems weird and it doesnt really make sense on doing a movie about that but it could work.
I picture "Days of Thunder" with some video games as part of the plot..

Damn i thought we were getting a movie with talking cars.
Sounds promising if you can get some true drama in there and not just be preachy.
Could go a way towards dispelling some of the myths that gaming can only be harmful…
This is probably the best way to go about a GT movie. Unless it were to show the career path of a pro driver, anything else would be unfaithful.
sounds gud aye interesting enough story.
happy gaming =)
