Rockstar On GTAV: “It’s Levels Of Magnitude Above GTAIV”

Rockstar makes big games. I mean, it's kinda what they do.

But Grand Theft Auto V was such a massive undertaking that it went above and beyond anything even Rockstar had done before. In speaking to BuzzFeed , art director Aaron Garbut spoke about the sheer size of the project in comparison to its predecessor, GTAIV.

"In terms of raw man-hours, this has been way in excess of any project we've done at Rockstar before. From the outset, we wanted to ensure that not only was the world big but that it was absolutely packed with character and life. It's levels of magnitude above Grand Theft Auto IV in terms of what we've done on the environment side."

Garbut did say that some games are technically larger than GTAV, but he insists that none are superior in terms of richness of content. Just about everything we will see has been meticulously designed by "a large number of extremely talented artists" and in fact, they've "considered the placement of every tree." This wasn't about copying and pasting buildings and other objects around the map. In fact, Garbut believes most players will never see everything the team created:

"That in itself, though, means that most people will have different experiences. In terms of process, other than plain old hard work, this has just been an incredibly iterative process where a large number of us have existed in this world for years now and wherever we could, we've added more depth and interest. What we've got at the end is I think something quite new. We used to call Liberty City a living, breathing world, but this is way beyond anything we've done before."

I just need to stop reading GTAV news. September 17 doesn't seem that far away (and it's not), but this is the kind of stuff that makes me all sorts of anxious. Hurry up and get here!

I can't believe I've decided to wait for the PS4 or PC version. This will be… Hard. Very, very hard.

you'll be waiting 6 months to a year…..& RDR was never released on PC so the unthinkable may occur however unlikely.

I am first and foremost gambling on it coming to the PS4. The PC version is the backup-plan, but all former GTAs has eventually also come to PC so I would be surprised if GTA5 didn't.
PS4 however, now that is a different question altogether. But I got hope!

The big question is WHEN. If it's just six months I can wait as long as I know the date. But a year? *ugh*

Not going to lie to you. I have no desire to hold off and wait for a PC or PS4 version, and truth be told… If it's at least as good as GTA IV … I'll buy it for PS4 or PC also.

I bought GTA IV on Ps3 and PC, Episodes from Liberty City TWICE for Ps3 (Disc and Digital), Vice City 4 times (Ps2, Mac, PC, [stupid steam sales] and Tablet) and GTA III once.

.. it's the one gaming title that causes me to make stupid purchasing decisions.

In regards to this particular franchise I have no objections against that practise.

to be honest i wouldent be surprised if it never comes to PC.
R* are still ashamed and embarrassed at the coding shambal that IV and even the RAGE engine is, especially on PC!
not to mention the fact that there constantly updating the game to try block the icenhancer mods and others, and constantly failing.
i wouldent be surprised if they dont release a PC version at all, just to save themselves the shame and embarrassment all over again!

Why are they trying/needing to block icenhancer? Isn't that just a mod that enhances the visuals?

it is.
dunno why they have had a relentless war with it, but eh all i can come up with is there ashamed how much better it makes the game look.
just seems wrong a SINGLE college student comes in and adapts someone elses game to look 100000 times better than some of the best people, with a budget of 50M times what said college student had.
every single game running on the RAGE engine is even worse optimized than crysis was!
hell i remember when max payne 3 released, my 5K alienware M18X dual 680s could not run it above 10FPS it was so poorly optimized!
now my G75 asus single 670 runs it at 60FPS.
they always have to release 6 patches, taking a year after release, before there games are playable!

I am no longer impressed by a living, breathing world. And I won't be impressed by this one unless it's at least 3 DVDs on 360.

2 Discs, one is just an 8gb install, the other is for regular play, on 360. Ps3 with blu-ray is only 1 disc, but still requires 8gb install.

No doubt its gonna be huge.

I always have to commend a dev who puts things into a game that most people wont even see. This shows that they want to make the world as big and as real as they can for the people who are going to go digging for secrets.

As an RPG fan since the beggining of my gaming experience, this is nothing new. There are some RPG games that have this things that you may miss if you don't do or achieve certain things. But I guess they also refer to the number of possibilities random things can occur, or to the size of the city, etc.

I like the commitment R* shows with this kind of things. Even Hideo San has appreciate their job before, and still does.

If I was amazed with GTAIV, this will explode my mind, and I like it.

i think i'll be getting both versions, if GTA V is made available for the PS4.

imo, there will be a PS4 version sooner than later.
no matter when the PS4 is released, people will
still want to play GTA V (i'm one of them).

thats nice R*, thats nice……….
gotta love how they keep churning out the same sh*t over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!
and to make things worse, its always irrelevant useless BS like this.
who give a flying *&^% how big the world is, how densely populated it is, how pretty it is, if its as fun to play as watching oprah!
