Cartoon Network New Media has decided to expand its games distribution to videogame consoles through their new innovative browser application, dubbed "MEGA Series." This application provides "an interactive video and gaming experience for broadband-enabled consoles," and in this case, that means the PS3 and Wii.
Users will be able to obtain this application via their broadband connection on their console, and the content they plan to include will – of course – be based on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim television shows. MEGA Series content is designed to be played simultaneously with streaming video, which should provide gamers with a "real-time immersive experience."
“Developing applications like MEGA Series is an important complement to our existing online and mobile businesses and a part of Cartoon Network’s digital growth strategy,” said Paul Condolora, senior vice president and general manager of Cartoon Network New Media. “Not only does MEGA Series extend our reach, but more importantly provides an opportunity to offer a unique content and user experience for our audience.”
Fans of Cartoon Network's often zany creations should be interested in this, and it will become available later on this year or early 2008. Technology has created another cross-over between television and gaming (with the Internet thrown in, obviously), so if you love those kooky TV shows, you should keep an eye on this application.
“The AFI Digital Content Lab encourages the type of creative thinking and collaboration that is imperative to help propel Flash development in the future,” said Bill Perry, manager of developer relations for mobile and devices at Adobe. “The development of the MEGA Series application is a great example of pushing technology to create even more robust entertainment experiences that reach consumers across a wide range of supported devices, including the Sony PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii console.”
